I think I need a new category called “hosting blues”, even though this time it isn’t exactly a hosting problem. So I was concerned that my site traffic seems to have taken a plunge and realized that my usually sizable in-clicks from good ol’ Google has dwindled to nothing. Quite alarmed, I did some quick investigating, verifying that I’m in fact no longer listed on Google, then verifying that I’m in fact not in violation of any Google quality guidelines, and eventually came upon the terrible truth. Yes, my free pseudo-domain provider has run afoul of the Google overlords with, apparently, it’s enormous base of abusive clients, and Google has responded with a sweeping ban that has also snared the sprinkling of innocent fish (read: me) as part of the punished collective.
I’ve since submitted a humble reconsideration request to the overlords, here’s hoping they will have mercy. Just the thought of having to belatedly buy a real domain and deal with the transfer makes me sick to the pit of my guts.
Have mercy, o Google.

Though I agree with one of the comments in hat thread saying that should should definitely consider getting a real domain :3 It isn’t that expensive nowadays.

Thanks :( I understand about getting a real domain, especially now that I can easily afford it, but I’ve been using the current one for years and have grown quite attached to it.
I may not have a choice though. I’ll wait a couple of weeks. If I don’t get reindexed, I guess I’ll buy a domain :(

Woooow. all the co.cc domains? That’s pretty brutal. I knew that I could not find your blog on Google for some reason, but I had no idea that it would be something on this caliber.
I bet you stand a fair chance of getting this fixed though. Pissing off a bunch of people does not go unnoticed and google usually does a good job trying to keep people happy.
If not… well we can burn that bridge when we come to it.
(Speaking of an inexpensive domain… yuenhoe.kokidokom.net – i kid, i kid, I know you want to keep your domain)

So they banned ALL .co.cc domains. :S Ehhhh… I don’t know what to say really. I hope they realise what a crazy move that was.

And wow xD the kombine must be pretty damn good. To be honest I have thought about it, and if I were just running this blog I’d have applied by now. It’s great to have a little community of blogs like that, and it’s been getting a little lonely with Dustin on hiatus and with Keiri drifting in a different direction and stuff. I just need to host non-blog related content as well, and so I basically need my own hosting anyway.
@Daniel: Yeah it sucks :( Though to be honest I guess it’s a sensible move, assuming they’re right that like 90% of co.cc site are spammy or malicious. Easier to ban in one sweep and selectively unban the odd innocent than to painstakingly seek out and ban all the individual offenders.

I know riiiiight? I guess in order to see the maintenance page I need to log out so I was not really certain it was there.
In any case, we are all moving to a new server. A VPS server apparently. (and whatever that entails)
In theory it will be faster and more responsive. This was quite the issue at some point. To the point where I recently had style.css look for the upside down hanging yuki nagato picture from my old wordpress.com site media library.

I have a blog hosted for free and was about to get a .co.cc address, now I’ll have to keep the same weird address.

Hi RockrKnight thanks for commenting :) At this point I’d really recommend just buying a domain if you plan to maintain your blog/site long term. I made it a challenge for myself to use nothing but free stuff until I graduate and now that I have done it I can freely admit it was way more trouble than it is worth. And, as you can see, it is still coming back every now and then to nip me in the behind :(
I say just like skimp on food and save a dollar for 10 days in a year or something xP
